Where to Stay?
The best area to stay in Cappadocia is Göreme. In Göreme You’ll be in the center of everything: trails, activities, shops, souvenirs, restaurants, tourist information centers, and the best spots for Your stay. In Göreme there are plenty of places to stay for every traveler: budget or luxury, but the views are amazing anywhere.
For me, a great place to stay was Ala Stone Hotel in Göreme, the rooftop terrace was great, breakfast was good and the price was great too.
Another thing is that Cappadocia is a great place to explore in Your own Campervan, there are plenty of places to stay on top of hills or in the valleys with all the beautiful and unusual views all around You.
How to get to Cappadocia?
There are many ways to get to Cappadocia, but the most convenient way is to get there from the big cities in Turkey by bus if You don’t rent a car.
From Istanbul the best way is to travel by plane – the nearest airports to Göreme are in Kayseri or Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport. To Kayseri Airport, Turkish Airlines, and Pegasus have several flights a day from Istanbul. SunExpress is another low-cost option.
If You prefer traveling by bus:
From Istanbul several bus companies have connections, they take about 10 hr and cost 110-145 TL. There are more services to close by Nevşehir. Make sure you book a couple of days in advance in peak times as buses sell out.
In Nevşehir you have connections from/to regional destinations including the underground cities at Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu. Dolmuses also run about every hour to nearby towns like Avanos and Urgup. They will charge approximately 10 TL for Uchisar, which is just up the hill—you are better off walking or hitchhiking down the road to Göreme – it’s not that far away.
From Kayseri, the best option is to take a bus to Ürhüp (1 hr) and then take a Dolmuç (small local bus) to Göreme. From Ürgüp you will find a Dolmuç that will go to Göreme in 10 min and will charge you approximately 15 TL. They leave every 30 minutes.
How to get around in Göreme?
By foot – The town of Göreme is fairly small, and walking is your best option. Walking also provides excellent views of the surrounding canyons, which are sights themselves.
Hitchhiking – To get around in the valley around Göreme, hitchhiking is very convenient and easy.
By car or other vehicles – if You have a car it’s great and easy, You can also rent mountain bikes (at 180 TL but they are very overpriced and not feasible in the valleys), scooters, motorcycles, and all-terrain quads..

Exploring Lake Tuz unveils breathtaking views of Turkey’s second-largest lake. Its expansive waters mirror the sky, creating an endless horizon. The dazzling scenery captivates from every angle. Notably, Lake Tuz stands as Turkey’s shallowest lake, adding to its unique allure.
You can catch the best views of the lake at sunset and when the water has turned pink.
“Lake Tuz is a saline lake (Tuz is Turkish for “salt”), so bring appropriate clothing and shoes to walk in the water, the best shoes for that would be water shoes.
Lake Tuz meets around half of Türkiye’s salt needs and has a length of 90 kilometers (55 miles) and a width of 25 kilometers.”
Fairy Chimneys
Fairy Chimneys is a surreal landscape of carved-out towering rock formations, all around Cappadocia that changes color with every sunset. Catch a breathtaking glimpse from hot air balloon rides or embark on valley hikes, but for the ultimate adventure, explore them up close. Uncovering the secrets of these enchanting chimneys, for a visit to each, is a voyage into a world of wonder like no other.
Day 2
Love Valley
On the next day, it’s time to see more of the shapes that make the landscape of Cappadocia surreal and unique.
Starting with hiking in Love Valley. This is the first thing to do in the morning after breakfast or before noon, while there are fewer tourists and You can park Your car next to the trail and explore this beautiful place on Your own with no one in sight. As You walk through the valley You’ll feel like You’re the only one there if You choose the best time for Your hike.
Park Your car next to the trail by the road and explore…
Why it’s called Love Valley You freely can imagine on Your Own.
But Love Valley, also known as the Valley of Lovers, is among the meeting points in Cappadocia for those who want to witness a magnificent visuality as well as those who want to experience romance to the fullest. This valley, which is one of the must-see places in Cappadocia, has a length of 4900 meters. The vineyards and fruit trees in the valley, fascinate every visitor with its impressive fairy chimneys.
Uchisar Castle
Here You can get to know how people carved all these amazing caves and cities to live in. As You climb higher up to the peak of the castle the view of Cappadocia emerges and reveals its unique formations.
Uchisar Castle is full of caves and rooms to explore on Your way down and cute yellow butterflies will be a friend of Yours as You explore the castle.
This 60-meter-high ‘castle’ is actually a mound of volcanic tuff, visible over a wide distance all over Goreme, Neveshir, Uchisar, and more. Uchisar Castle is one of Cappadocia’s most prominent landmarks.
Fun fact: from a distance, especially from Pigeon Valley it looks like a huge snail with holes.
Pigeon Valley
This place is for escaping the crowds and stepping into your own private paradise. Unlike the usual tourist hotspots, this hidden gem offers hiking trails with breathtaking views that are all yours to savor. Whether you’re an intrepid hiker seeking a challenge or simply a curious wanderer, Pigeon Valley delivers a one-of-a-kind experience that goes beyond the typical Cappadocia scene.
Named after the pigeon houses carved into its rocky embrace, Pigeon Valley weaves history and nature into a mesmerizing tapestry. These feathered inhabitants once played a crucial role, their droppings enriching crops that sustained civilizations.
Stretching over 4 kilometers between Uchisar and Goreme, and plunging up to 100 meters deep, the valley is a testament to time’s artistry.
And when the sun dips below the horizon, prepare to be captivated by sunsets that transform the sky into a canvas of awe-inspiring hues, making your journey to Pigeon Valley an unforgettable adventure.
Day 3
Kaymakli Underground City
On the 3rd day explore the mesmerizing Kaymakli Underground City, a subterranean wonder that takes you back in time. Delve beneath the surface and discover a never-ending labyrinth of hidden chambers, intricate and creepy tunnels, and ingenious architecture that once served as a refuge for ancient civilizations.
As you wander through the cool, dimly lit passages, you’ll uncover the secrets of this underground marvel, a testament to human ingenuity and survival. Feel the weight of history as you explore the depths of Kaymakli, a place where the echoes of the past resonate with every step.
And here’s a secret of your own – surprise your companions with a playful sneak attack from the alleys that wind through this subterranean wonderland. It’s an adventure within an adventure, a twist that’s sure to ignite laughter.
Chase the chill – don’t forget your jacket, for within the city’s depths, an unexpected coolness awaits, a refreshing contrast to the world above. And if you’re tempted by a guided tour, be prepared for the unexpected twists and turns of traffic. You may not be able to explore the deepest tunnels and chambers, but on the other hand, guides may tell very useful information about life there. If You do not spend Your money on the guide just follow some of the groups and try to listen it may be very helpful.
The place is really worth a visit for adventure and exploration seekers especially.
ATV Sunset Tour
This is the last full day at Göreme so You can’t miss the ATV sunset tour, the territory around Göreme is gorgeous and what better way to enjoy all that it has to offer than getting on the quad and driving around the sandy roads?
Conquer rolling hills as the golden rays of the setting sun cast a magical glow over the terrain. With each twist and turn, you’ll feel an adrenaline rush like no other, the thrill of the open air and the breathtaking panoramas merging into an unforgettable symphony of sights and sensations.
But hey, before you zoom off into the horizon, here’s the inside scoop: securing a top-notch guide and a trusty ATV is key. Oh, and don’t forget the essentials – think badass – glasses and a bandana that’s your ticket to style and comfort. Because let’s be real, a thrilling ride deserves nothing less than epic gear.
Now, if you’re a savvy online booker, take a pit stop at the review corner. It’s like your personal pit crew, giving you the lowdown on the best options in town. But wait, if the whole digital thing isn’t your jam and you’re rollin’ up to the agencies in Goreme, here’s the deal: grill your agent like a pro chef. Quiz ’em about your potential guide, the kind of adventure waiting for you, and whether your ATV is ready to roar or just whispering sweet goodbyes.
Picture this: we didn’t exactly ace the guide lottery and wound up with ATVs that were channeling their inner ghosts, and helmets that seemed more cowboy than trailblazer. But guess what? We still rocked it and had a blast. Because when the ride is this wild, a little imperfection just adds to the story – and trust me, your stories of Cappadocia are gonna be legendary.
Day 4
Hot Air Balloon ride
Rise with the sun and let your spirits soar above Cappadocia in a hot air balloon, a surreal dance with the clouds that unveils a dreamscape below. As you glide above the whimsical rock formations, you’ll catch your breath at the breathtaking views that stretch to the horizon.
Embrace the magic of a day that starts in the dead of night – fuel up with coffee-fueled excitement and hop onto a bus that’s your ticket to Cappadocia’s most splendid secrets. And then, brace yourself – picture a sky painted with anticipation, as your hot air balloon takes center stage, joined by a majestic fleet of 100 others. It’s a sunrise spectacle you won’t believe.
Climb aboard your balloon, and suddenly you’re part of a floating fiesta, waving at strangers who become instant companions as you soar above breathtaking valleys. Feel the thrill of shaking hands under the billowing canvas of your balloon, sharing smiles that need no translation. Oh, and remember those strangers on rooftops? Say “good morning” as you drift through Goreme, becoming a cameo in their vacation snapshots, a memory etched forever in their wanderlust tales.
So, ready to ride the wind, embrace the unknown, and leave your mark on the morning sky?
If You want to book a Hot Air Balloon ride then the best way to do it is to go to some of the Tourism agencies they will give You the best deals, just be insistent and You’ll get it or ask for deals at Your hotel. Online You won’t find the best deals.
Hot Air Balloon ride is the one thing You don’t want to miss out on.
Selime Peri Bacalari
Then it’s time to venture onward to the realm of Selime Peri Bacalari, where nature’s secrets converge in a mesmerizing dance. Within these enchanting earth cones, discover the crown jewels – majestic cave churches, residential chambers, and even splendid villas. As if that weren’t enough, here’s the kicker – the best part of this treasure trove? You won’t bump into the usual tourist crowd. It’s like stepping into your own Indiana Jones escapade, where uncharted wonders await your discovery.
Prepare to unleash your inner explorer – this is no ordinary stroll. Picture yourself wandering through colossal caves, ascending ancient staircases worn smooth by time, and lounging on balconies tucked into the heart of the earth. It’s an adventure that defies the norm, an invitation to become one with history and nature, all without spending a dime. So, embrace the thrill, embark on the unconventional, and make memories that’ll have you smiling long after you’ve left this hidden gem behind.
There is a paid entrance to the monastery and some Cathedrals but also a space where You can explore totally for free. And the best part is that tourist crowds may be bigger at the paid part than at the free side and You have plenty of space to park Your car.
